Preliminary FAQs

How do we get started?

Please complete the inquiry form and email Father Nathan to schedule an initial meeting.

The date will be set after your first meeting with Father Nathan.

When are weddings scheduled?

Weddings are typically at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoons. Wedding rehearsals are typically scheduled at 5 p.m. on Friday evenings. Alternative times and days may be requested but are not guaranteed.

When is a wedding celebrated within a Mass?

When two active Catholics marry, it’s usually celebrated within Mass. When a Catholic and a non-Catholic marry, the ceremony is usually outside Mass.

Why do we have to go through marriage preparation?

We desire for you to have the best, happiest, and holiest marriage possible! We believe that marriage preparation helps set you up to have a strong marriage. The Church requires the couple to freely enter marriage, to commit themselves for life, and to be open to life (children). To do this honestly, you need a chance to freely and openly discuss your relationship.

How long does the marriage preparation process take?

That depends on the couple. It takes a minimum of six months to give the proper time and energy to the process.

What will you ask us to do?

The marriage preparation process at Holy Spirit involves several steps:

  1. Meet with the Fr. Nathan 3-4 times.

  2. Complete the Fully Engaged Inventory.

  3. Participate in the pre-marriage retreat.

  4. Take a Natural Family Planning (NFP) class.

  5. Meet with a mentor couple approximately 4–5 times.

  6. Meet with the liturgist.

  7. Meet with the wedding coordinator.

How much does it cost to celebrate a wedding at Holy Spirit?

We do not charge to celebrate sacraments; however, we do request a fee of $1,000 to cover operational expenses, a portion of the preparation materials, results of the Fully Engaged inventory, and the stipend for the wedding coordinator, accompanist, and cantor. This fee does not cover the cost of the retreat or NFP classes.
