Baptism

Gateway to the Life of the Spirit

“Baptize first the children; and if they can speak for themselves, let them do so. Otherwise, let their parents or other relatives speak for them.” - Saint Hippolytus of Rome, The Apostolic Tradition, 215 A.D.

"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons [and daughters] of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church, and made sharers in her mission: 'Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word'" (CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1213).

We are thrilled that you are inquiring about baptism for either yourself or your child. Baptism is the introduction into the community of faith. Next to the gift of life, the second greatest gift you can give your child is the gift of baptism!

Baptism for Infants and Children

For parents requesting to have their child baptized, there are three steps to complete:

  1. Complete the baptism request form

  2. Attend a baptism formation class
Because baptism is so important for the salvation of our children, the Church strongly urges parents to baptize their children within the first few weeks of birth. You may begin the process before your baby is born.

  3. Schedule and celebrate the sacrament of baptism!

After the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis receives your baptism request, she will follow up with you to schedule both the class and the baptism. Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays following the 10:30 a.m. Mass.

The baptism fee of $35 helps to cover supplies for the preparation and celebration. Checks can be made to Holy Spirit.
